This Ford Panel Delivery Truck is a custom built 1938 with the running boards forward fabricated and customized into a 1934 modified car style. John wanted this in the remembrance of some younger days. Many know that we had a family owned trucking business for over 36 years. But as the story was told by John, (many times), his early entrepreneurial days where both “fruitful” and almost “arresting”. |

When John was 13-14 years old he had and old model “A” truck. He would drive into Portland to the produce market early in the morning and haggles his wares for the day. Then he would drive towards the coast and set up his stand. He soon had regular customers that watched for him so they could get fresh fruit and produce. One particular place he stopped was near Astoria, OR. What is now Alternate Hwy 101. One of John’s regulars was a Sherriff. One day the Sherriff regrettably told John that someone had complained and that he needed to see his license for paperwork. John stalled a bit and handed him a permit. The Sherriff said “no, I need to see your license”. John looked at him obviously just wanting to get out of there. The Sherriff said, “ I’m gonna drive back into town and have coffee. Then I’m gonna come back out here and you better not be here”. So John packed up, and halfway home, set up and sold the rest of his produce. |
